Have you ever wished your UV printer could do more than just flat surfaces? What if you could turn a simple print into a weather-proof, durable sticker or decal that sticks (and stays stuck) on glass, metal, acrylic, wood — even packaging? With UV DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing, that wish becomes a reality.
What is UV DTF Printing?
UV DTF is a process that bridges traditional UV printing and vinyl/sticker applications. Instead of printing directly onto a rigid surface, the design is first printed onto a flexible film. That film can then be transferred — like a sticker — onto a wide variety of surfaces. The result: a scratch-resistant, waterproof decoration that looks sharp and professional.
Why It’s a Game-Changer
-
Extreme versatility: Because you're printing on film first, you’re not limited to flat surfaces. Glass bottles, metal tins, acrylic signage, wood panels — even irregular or curved surfaces are fair game.
-
Durability & quality: UV-DTF stickers are built to last. Once applied, they resist water, scratches, and everyday wear, making them ideal for items like packaging, promotional merchandise, home décor, and more.
-
Flexible output volumes: Whether you need just a few custom stickers or a high-volume batch, UV DTF works. It’s perfect for small business owners, artists, or companies doing large print runs.
From Printer to Product: The Workflow
1. Design creation
Create your design using standard design software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
2. Print on A Sheet

Print your design in reverse on the A sheet (printing film) using your UV printer. Print CMYK + White + Varnish layers in one pass (depending on your design). The printer will cure each layer instantly.
3. Laminate the B Sheet

Align a B sheet over the printed A sheet. Use a laminator or roller to press slowly and evenly. Also smooth out any bubbles.
4. Peel Off & Apply

Make sure the target surface (metal, plastic, glass, etc.) is clean and dry. Position the sticker and press down firmly. Slowly peel off the transfer film - no sprays, no heat, no coatings needed. Use a scraper/squeegee to remove bubbles.

Ready to Try? Here are a Few Tips to Get Started
-
Ensure your printer supports DTF-film printing. Not all UV printers are compatible out-of-the-box — check manufacturer specs.
-
Use high-quality films. The film matters: good adhesive, proper thickness and UV-resistant finish will affect the durability and appearance of your stickers.
-
Test before mass production. Do a few test prints and transfers — especially if applying to unusual surfaces — to make sure adhesion and finish are good.
-
Protect when needed. For outdoor use or heavy handling, consider adding a clear coat or protective layer to enhance longevity.
